Day 15 of 30
Day 15 of 30
30 days of learning about myself by posting a real photo, of my real body, here online!
🐿 “I just worry - everything you put on the internet stays there forever” was the question, my response was, and is, “if I’m going to put ANYTHING on the internet forever, I’m really glad this is it”
🐿 When I get pushback (rare) about this experiment, here are the 3 specific comments that come to mind and keep me motivated:
🌙1. a beautiful woman in grieving who lost her mother this week, shared she still comes to find my daily posts for a little moment of peace each day (this may very well be the #1 most humbling thing I’ve experienced)
🌙2. a lovely, adventurous spirit who is on her way to Thailand is now planning to include herself in her travel photos, instead of continually opting out (I know this struggle and I’m so proud of her)
🌙3. so many of you magical people have said, “that looks like MY BODY” with so much peace and simultaneous excitement (sounds small, but it’s BIG when I hear this)
🐿 Pictured above, the stunning painting @imnotyoursecretsanta painted of me… coming from a background as a model in my teens, and being validated for so many years for being “mainstream beautiful”, it is incredibly powerful for me to appear in art in my real, raw self - comfortable in my skin and working on loving myself from every angle. This was such a gift I cannot even find the words.
🐿 One thing I noticed in the painting is an “imperfection” of mine that has haunted me a little throughout certain seasons in life… my ear! My ears are a kind of funny shape at the top and I distinctly remember a comment on an old photo of me saying “stunning photo but I’m distracted by her disfigured ear”… the following comment said I was “too androgynous” which as a teenage girl was horrifying, as an adult I’m like “oh I look like a human - cool, thanks!”
🐿 I love embracing my silly shaped ears and this painting reminded me my imperfections are what make me perfect.
🐿 If you’re still reading this, you are magic - you are light - and every single thing you do to be more YOU, positively impacts the ones you love and many, many more. Just a reminder :)
